Souper Tang by Tang Shifu ~ Midvalley Megamall

LC and I hardly have Chinese food in malls as there's always a better equivalent in a kopitiam or restaurant elsewhere. Souper Tang was an exception because soup rice dishes are quickly becoming extinct in the Klang Valley. If you know a good one, be sure to let me know!

Souper Tang's impressive variety had us flipping the menu for quite awhile before deciding on a rice dish and a soup each. Find the menu here.

To tempt you to read on, here's a photo that had people drooling on my Facebook.

Generously topped with baby abalones, dried scallop and chinese mushrooms, the Dried Scallops & Petite Abalone Mixed Rice (RM18.90) was a tasty and rich dish, comforting with every scoop. The broth had rich flavors of shellfish and mushrooms making me reminisce meals as a child. Back then, rice soaked in a rich broth of chicken of pork with bits of meat, potato and carrot chunks and bits of corn was a staple. This was an adult dish disguised as a child's meal.

LC had a Claypot Minced Pork Topped On Rice Served with Soup (RM16.90). Evidently, they are generous with their ingredients and LC loved every bite of the minced pork and wood ear with hints of black sauce minus the usual scent of gamey pork.

I ordered the Doubled Boiled Superior Soup Served in Teapot (RM15.90) because I was intrigued by the presentation but I found myself pouring all the contents into a bowl for easy access. Laced with the sweetness of goji berries and earthy ginseng, the chicken broth was herby and comforting!

The chicken in the soup was tender and had absorbed all the lovely ginseng flavors. No dipping sauce needed here!

LC went for an American Ginseng Soup with Black Chicken (RM23.90) which had really intense flavors. The chicken was fork tender and the ginseng essence had seeped right through the chicken bones.

We decided on some Super Tang Plum Tea which was really sour and even after being diluted by the ice, stayed sour and a little salty when we asked for a takeaway.

The meal was very satisfying and was probably one of the cleanest and most feel-good meal we've ever had. When it's a cold day and you're feeling dreary, the food here will make you feel right again, without making a hole in your wallet.
