The Uma Bali ~ Kota Damansara

After ordering from them during MCO, I finally had the opportunity to dine in at The Uma Bali.

This time I had the Babi Kecap Manis set and it was abundant with super tender pieces of pork cubes and the usual sides of urap sayur, hard boiled egg and emping. The pork was a little sweet with coconut and herbal notes, delicious!

The Balinese gado-gado turned out too much to finish as there's already so much in the individual meal set. The gado-gado sauce was creamy but not cloying on the mixture of cucumber, kangkung, tauge, nasi impit, hard boiled eggs and emping.

It was definitely more enjoyable in the restaurant with the fresh food and atmosphere. More visits to come!

Healthy & delicious bowls by Rawsome and Kubis & Kale

Been on a roll lately for healthy bowls and I've been pretty impressed by the options I got on Grab. If it was not for GrabFood, I may not have considered any of these places nor tried them, purely based on my food preferences (sorry, I make unhealthy choices).

Rawsome has quite a number of branches around Klang Valley and is currently my favorite. Every item in the bowl is well seasoned separately and when they come together, it is filling, wholesome and very tasty. There is no compromise in flavor even though the ingredients are prepared with minimal cooking and seasoning.

Rawsome's Signature Bowls from bottom, clockwise -
Blood Type B bowl, Tempeh Rendang bowl and Bulgogi Beef & Cauliflower Fried Rice

The Blood Type B bowl has vegetarian 'soy chicken' & potato curry, mushrooms, spinach, tofu and a hard boiled egg with 3 options as the base. I picked quinoa. The curry was aromatic and the mushrooms had a strong Chinese braise flavor quite like the kind you get in a braised chicken and mushroom in black sauce. The spinach was just lightly blanched then seasoned so it retained all the spinach-y flavor and a nice texture. The tofu had a light coat of seasoning and was pan fried. I'm usually not fond of hard tofu but this was pleasant. The bowl did not come with a sauce but it was tasty enough not to need any.

The Tempeh Rendang bowl had tempeh rendang, chopped long beans, chia seed sambal and a hard boiled egg with 4 options as a base. I chose to add-on chicken breast and have quinoa as the base. If you are a fan of tempeh, you have to try this tempeh rendang! It's such a good alternative to meat and it was so, so flavorful, it blew my mind. The sambal was tasty with some heat without the gooey chia seed texture. This combination to me was an excellent interpretation of a healthy nasi campur.

The Bulgogi Beef & Cauliflower Fried Rice was my least favorite as there wasn't a very strong flavor in the beef and the spring onions in the dish was super fresh and fragrant, overpowering the entire dish (I don't like spring onions!). This is actually my first time trying cauliflower rice and it wasn't dry enough to mimic the texture of rice, so this is a miss for me.

On another occasion, I ordered a bibimbap and it is currently my favorite Rawsome item! The vegetables had lovely crunchy textures and the sauce was flavorful. This is definitely the tastiest healthy bibimbap I've ever had.

If grains are not your thing, there's also a ramen bowl to choose from which had good reviews from the eater.

Also tried the Mango Jelly Chia Pudding on the same occasion and it tasted very guilt-free. It had mild sweetness but had all the textures and flavors of a typical dessert that you won't miss the absence of a sweetening agent. Do try this if you're a fan of chia pudding.

Depending on the nearest branch to your delivery location, they may have the option to 'build your own bowl' but I would recommend going for their Signature Bowls because they have definitely put a lot of thought into the flavor combinations and I found that building my own doesn't necessarily make it the tastiest. This was a combination of tofu, tempeh rendang, zucchini, sweet potato and quinoa. Definitely not as good as their Signature Bowls.

Kubis & Kale is a poké bowl restaurant at Bandar Sunway and usually at the physical branch, you can pick from their signature poké bowls or build your own. For the Grab menu, there are preset bowls with a compulsory selection of a drink with some add-ons to choose from. Currently free delivery is offered to all orders made on AirAsia Food.

I ordered a Maple Soy Tempeh bowl which had maple soy tempeh, purple sweet potato, gado-gado, blistered cherry tomatoes, charred sweet corn, parmesan crumbs and seaweed flakes with a chimichurri sauce (lime, cilantro & jalapeno). I added on kale crisps that were a bit salty on its own but delicious when had together with the rest of the bowl.

The tangy sauce really brought the entire bowl together and I like the variety in the ingredients. The maple soy tempeh had a savory flavor that I didn't expect would go well with tempeh but it did! Every mouthful was flavorful with a bit of everything and I'm a sucker for that.

Gajah Mada ~ Citta Mall

Disclaimer: The visit to Gajah Mada was way before the MCO was implemented. Kindly check their Facebook page for their opening hours for dine-in or pick-up/delivery options at the end of this post.

Rather recently opened in Citta Mall, Gajah Mada by The Majapahit offers Malaysian, Thai, Vietnamese & Indonesia cuisine. Interestingly, it draws its name from the famous military leader and Prime Minister of the Majapahit empire, Gajah Mada.

For drinks, we had a Es Kelapa Muda Jeruk and Iced Thai Milk Tea. The coconut and orange juice was fresh but there were no prominent coconut flavor, it tasted only of orange. The Thai milk tea was decent.

To eat, a Ayam Cabe Ijo, a Ayam Gulai Padang and a Sambal Terung Berlado.

The Ayam Cabe Ijo had a roughly pounded green chilli sambal on steamed chicken breast. The chicken breast very well done - flavorful, tender and moist. The sambal is definitely not for the faint hearted - it was so spicy that the back of my head was sweating! Despite the spiciness, it was very tasty, fragrant and didn't have the raw flavor that usually comes with a pounded sambal.

All the personal sets come with steamed rice, condiments and sides. I especially loved the sambal kering tempeh. It is exactly like the one my mum makes (which is in the style made by one of our Indonesian maids). The corn fritters had a nice crust and a fluffy inside. The portion of the dish was very filling and satisfying. Top up RM1.50 to get a whole chicken leg instead of a chicken breast.

The Ayam Gulai Padang was rich in spices with a strong coconut milk flavor. There was a lot of curry to go around, it makes you want to eat a lot of rice. The sides vary depending on the cuisine of the set you pick but we happened to have the same.

The Sambal Terong Berlado had a kicap lemak like flavor and tasted more of kicap than sambal but was still enjoyable. The brinjal was tender and well done.

Food was impressive here and is definitely worth trying. For those with a family of picky eaters, there's a good variety of dishes from different cuisines here so there would be something for everyone. They have private areas for large parties as well.

I am now rather curious to try their other dishes and dining at The Majapahit too one day. Till then!

Naughty Nuri's ~ Desa Sri Hartamas

Originating in Ubud, Bali, Naughty Nuri's has grown beyond the mom and pop warung (Isnuri Suryatmi and her late American husband Brian Aldinger) to multiple branches in Indonesia and 2 branches in Malaysia - Desa Sri Hartamas and Burmah Road in Penang. Famous for its grilled pork ribs, I knew it was a matter of time that I end up here, given that my pork consumption has gone up a little recently.

A cute image tickles your funny bone as you make your way to its entrance.

Warung Leko ~ The Curve

Warung Leko is located in the quieter part of The Curve - at the connecting bridge of The Curve and e-curve. LC has always wanted to bring me here but since I've only recently started eating beef again, he only had his chance much later.

The photo belongs to Warung Leko's Google+ account.

An order for 2 extra hot iga penyet, 2 white rice and 2 drinks was made and many, many moments later....

3 pieces of beef ribs on a thin layer of sambal appears! Please be warned that service is very slow.

The beef rib was perfectly marinated in Indonesian spices and fell over the bone so easily. It was tasty and tender and everything that delicious beef should be. I told LC - "This is how you convert people to eat beef la!". The only downside was that there was only 3-4 pieces per portion. Give me more darn it!

Please do not take the sambal for granted, this extra hot (off the menu) version had me continuously reaching for my drink. And even though they only give you a thin layer, it would be more than enough. Not only spicy, it was tasty and flavorful which creates this love-hate relationship with this evil sambal.

Rendezvous Restaurant Hock Lock Kee ~ The Central, Singapore

This first guest post is from Gwen in Singapore. She enjoys food as much as me but she has a big hate for Singaporean food. And in a way, I kinda agree with her haha! Someone really needs to bring me for good food in Singapore.

Rendezvous Restaurant Hock Lock Kee is now in Central. The map can be found here. Other reviews can be found at hungrygowherefifo.sg and atetoomuch.blogspot.com
