It's mightily bold of me to say this but I've found the best filled donuts... ever!
Basket Break Bakehouse is a cheerful little kiosk on the basement parking level of Seventeen Mall, PJ with sourdough donuts, buns and cookies.
Don't let the small variety of offerings fool you - this little morsels are just waiting to blow your socks off.
The donuts are a texture wonderland - crunchy on the outside, a fluffy and chewy, almost mochi-like interior and a smooth creamy filling. This applies to all their donuts and the filling to bread ratio is just right.
The bostock was something new to me - a bread slice topped with almond frangipane then baked to get a slightly crispy, slightly custardy, almond-y topping and a syrup-brushed bread that remains fluffy.
Basket Break's version has a citrusy element which counters the sweetness, very enjoyable.
These kept well in the fridge within its promised 3 days of freshness and a quick bake or in my case air fry did the trick to warm up the filling and crisped up the exterior.
12/10. A must try.
